Play in the Pines

Year-round golf so extraordinary you may forget to keep score.

Nestled on the southern edge of the largest continuous stand of Ponderosa pine in the United States, the Golf Club at Chaparral Pines is the centerpiece of this breathtaking 630-acre private, residential community in Payson.

The course was co-designed by former U.S. Open and U.S. PGA Champion David Graham and Scottsdale-based architect Gary Panks. Its 18 holes offer a variety of spectacular play options that consistently exceeds members' expectations.

"There are three factors that have great impact on golf course site selection: mature vegetation, natural changes in elevation, and outstanding vistas; Chaparral Pines has all three in abundance. It is without a doubt the best site I've ever worked on in the state," says Panks.

In designing the golf course, Graham and Panks worked to preserve as much of the natural vegetation and topography as possible. The result is a routing that is distinguished by its spectacular boulder outcroppings, natural rock formations, and dramatic elevation, all surrounded by towering pines which reach heights exceeding 100 feet. Complementing the challenging design is an assortment of intrinsic and man-made lakes, streams, and washes.

"Chaparral Pines truly is a spectacular project" adds Graham. "It has magnificent scenery and an incredible flow that is perfect for a golf course. I think members will find it a thrilling experience in an outstanding, natural setting."

The golf course continues to receive rave reviews, and in its inaugural year was named one of the "Top 10 New Private Golf Courses in the U.S." by Golf Digest. It has consistently been ranked among the magazine's "Top 25 Private Golf Courses" in Arizona.
